Week-long Day Camps (Starting July 10)

Beginning (Level I)   [See also Intermediate (Level II)]

his is a beginning horsemanship program offered Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Subjects and activities:

  • Horse sense, breeds, colors, and ,markings

  • Safety -- approaching and leading horses

  • Grooming, saddling, and bridling

  • Mounting and dismounting

  • Seat and hand position

  • Basic aids and horse control

  • Circles and reverses

  • Basic care of the horse -- cleaning stalls and feeding

  • Daily arts and crafts

  • Trotting (if the students are ready)

  • Cost of owning and caring for a horse

Sessions: July 10-14; July 24-28; August 7-11;  August 21-25.

There is a limit of eight students per session.  The fee is $400, with a $150 deposit.

Intermediate (Level II)

his is a continuing horsemanship program offered Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Students must have completed the Beginning instruction (above) or receive pre-approval by Carousel's instructor.   Subjects and activities:

  • Horse sense and safety

  • Parts of the horse and tack

  • Colors and markings of horses

  • Basic gaits

  • Horse terms

  • Balance of the horse and rider

  • How to adjust your own tack

  • Basic care of the horse -- cleaning and feeding

  • Learn to lope (if the students are ready)

  • Daily arts and crafts

  • Cost of owning and caring for a horse

Sessions: July 10-14; July 24-28; August 7-11;  August 21-25.
